Leon Rogers
As a child, Leon Rogers always enjoyed making people laugh. Also known as “The Destined Legend,” Leon's adoration for comedy continuously grew throughout his teen years and early 20s. Soon thereafter, he decided to professionally embark upon the challenging local comedy circuit in Chicago, IL.
Prior to his decision to tackle the world of stand-up, he studied the masters of comedy, like Richard
Pryor, George Carlin, Eddie Murphy and others. These original kings of comedy were an incredible influence to the young Leon.
After honing his craft and successfully performing at comedy clubs throughout the Windy City and neighboring suburbs for several years, Leon decided to expand his popularity by appearing on nationally televised comedy shows. His big break occurred when he was a guest on BET's Comic View in the late 1990s.
His timely jokes of love, life, pop culture and politics, accompanied with witty delivery were a major hit. After his Comic View appearance, Leon was booked and featured on several other TV shows and cable specials including: BET’s Mic Stand, P. Diddy’s Bad Boys of Comedy, Jamie Foxx’s Laffapalooza, Cedric the Entertainer’s Starting Lineup, and Bill Bellamy’s Who’s Got Jokes.
In addition to being featured on TV shows, he also has a few film credits to his name, such as Barbershop (including its sequel) and The Tuskegee Airmen. His on-screen talent can also be seen with cameos in music videos for recording artists Ludacris, R. Kelly and Ronald Isley.
After making a name for himself within the comedy community, radio stations began to take notice. In 2003 Leon was hired as the co-host of the morning show on Power 92.3 in Chicago. A few years later he decided to join the #1 radio station in Chicago, 107.5 WGCI, where he is currently a member of The Morning Riot (from 5am to 10am). He is also the host of “The Block Party,” on the award-winning station on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm.
In 2008, Leon was selected as a spokesperson for the EA Sports video game, Madden NFL 2009. His sports fervor was also heard on the airwaves back in 2005 during his two-year stint as co-host of Power 92.3’s radio show, “Sports Unplugged,” with ESPN writer Scoop Jackson and college basketball analyst Steve Bardo.
Throughout his career, Leon has received a host of awards and accolades, including top honor for the Miller Genuine Draft Comedy Search, Chicago Music Awards Comedian of the Year twice, as well as a finalist in Comedy Central's Laugh Riots competition.
Leon has been a mainstay on the airwaves, as well as on the stage for over 10 years. He has proven that he is well on his way to making his moniker, “The Destined Legend,” come to fruition.
A father of two young daughters, Ashely and Autumn, Leon is married to Nicole Rogers and resides in South Holland, IL.
